Mary-Kate had no idea she’d return from Venice with a ring on her finger… she was modelling along with her boyfriend Lee for a styled wedding shoot in Italy, having the experience of a lifetime which she probably didn’t think could get any better.
She was in for the most amazing surprise…
Today I bring you the most delicious shoot I could ever dream of showing you! I’ve been working alongside the lovely team at Aspire Photography Training recently, writing little bits of calligraphy and helping super stylist Yasmin with wedding shoot plans. It’s really exciting.
I was thrilled when Yasmin from Aspire asked me to provide calligraphy for a shoot at Castello Ceconi in Italy. I adore the images and how they tell a story, especially with the incredible twist right at the end!
Images are by Lisa Aldersley, Ayshea Goldberg, Teresa Cunningham and Marta May. I’ve included a little about each of the photographers who shared their images for the shoot at the end of today’s post. Please visit their websites and discover more – they’re all brilliant and I love their photographs to bits!
The engagement shoot…
We begin with an engagement-style photoshoot, with all the wonderful warm light of the Italian countryside.
This is love and romance at its beautiful best.
The Italian-inspired wedding styling
There’s a styled shoot as well with ideas for a Venice-inspired wedding: romantic calligraphy, fabulous lilac hydrangeas and opulent, luxurious table decorations.

The bridal preparations… Italian style
The most incredible bridal portraits…
Our beautiful bride-to-be Mary-Kate models for bridal portraits and is joined by her handsome other half Lee for some lovely couple photographs around the castle and against the backdrop of the alpine valley.
If you’re planning a summer wedding you’ll love their style – the light, bohemian wedding dresses and Lee’s summer suit; Mary-Kate’s super pretty up-do and backless dress… or her relaxed, loose waves and flower crown are perfect for a summer wedding day.
… and then:
The surprise proposal!!!
In Mary-Kate’s own words, “Lee (the gorgeous groom) actually proposed to me on the last day of the last shoot in the Italian castle and we are now getting REALLY married!!”
The photographers on the day had no idea.
Lee might have mentioned to one or two of the Aspire team that this was going to happen, and there might have been a little champagne ready behind the scenes. But back at Castello Ceconi Lee took Mary-Kate’s breath away when he dropped to one knee… and you can see what happened next!
She. said. Yes!
I can’t imagine a more romantic proposal, can you?! A trip to Italy, modelling for a styled wedding photoshoot… and at the last minute, a proposal. Huge congratulations Mary-Kate and Lee (you absolute STAR!) – and best of luck for the most amazing wedding you can imagine. I imagine you’ll have a proposal photo or two on your walls… I don’t envy you having to choose just one from this amazing set of images!
With huge thanks to the team at Aspire Photography Training and to the four super photographers who have shared their images with us today.
Lisa is one of the most sought-after wedding photographers in the UK. She shoots weddings in Lancashire and Cheshire, the Lake District and further afield – and her images are intuitive, beautiful and out of this world. Lisa is one of Aspire’s top wedding photography trainers.
Marta May Photography – based in Hereford, Marta and Artur’s style is wonderfully non-traditional, creative and exciting. I love the delicate romance in Marta May’s images.
Teresa Cunningham has the most amazing base on the estate of Knowsley Hall. Her images are natural, spontaneous, intimate and chic – and her eye for photographing calligraphy is superb!
Ayshea Goldberg is based in Essex, and a genuine, super friendly, lovely lady I had the pleasure of meeting at Aspire last year. She blends natural reportage and fine art photography to create images which are unique, pretty and romantic.
