Morning everyone! I have a fabulous wedding for you this morning – but first, quickly, any suppliers who’d like a May advertising spot please do email me! I have a couple more spaces to fill for next month and I’m looking for applications today 🙂
I loved the rich, vibrant colours of Katie and Damian’s Lancashire wedding as soon as I saw them – the rustic styling is beautifully done, and all of the DIY elements of today’s wedding are bound to inspire some of you!
Gorgeous bride Katie has shared some lovely tips on budgeting, crafting and planning their wedding day, and her advice is wonderful: “Stay true to you and your husband-to-be’s wishes as other people will certainly have their input in the matter but you have to do what you want as it’s your day. Savour every second as it truly does fly by and set a limit of meeting and greeting.”
Images are by lovely Arusha from Arusha’s Images Photography. Arusha – like me – is based on the edge of the beautiful Lake District, and you can see more of her work here:

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer?
Yes – she was so discreet and made us completely feel at ease whilst at the same time capturing extra special moments of our day in the style we wanted. Arusha was very fairly priced and adapted a package to meet our needs. We got a great package in the end with some great results. We loved that Arusha had an Engagement shoot as part of the package which was great at making sure we knew how Arusha worked and just having our picture taken together. If you can we would recommend this.

Can you describe your wedding in a single sentence?
Autumnal gorgeousness on a fun, loved- filled day set in the beautiful Lancashire countryside
What was your reaction to seeing your wedding photos for the first time?
We loved the journalistic style that we had seen Arusha capture before. I (Katie) cried as I relived the day through Arusha’s shots. Arusha captured the extra special moments in our day that we can always look back on through our photos. A lot of people have commented on the style of our photos and like how the natural moments have been captured.
Your wedding style or theme:
Rustic, Romantic and Autumnal
How long did you spend planning your wedding?
We were engaged for just less than 3 years and had a lot of time to plan and research exactly what we wanted.
Best bit of budget advice?
To keep a spreadsheet to keep a track of purchases and that way it allows you to tweak as time goes on. We didn’t scrimp on anything and tried to do as much ourselves as possible. We stuck to budget and got everything we wanted.
Wedding invitations and on the day stationery:
I made these and used a range of autumnal and rustic resources.
Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?
Yes, after trying on a lot of styles during my first appointment the advisor asked which one I felt most like a bride in. After that it was easy shopping for the style I wanted. My only specification was ‘no bling’. My dress was perfect and the natural silk enhanced the natural colours of the wedding.

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?
The Alma itself already suited our theme down to a tee. I only added decorations as a personal choice. The log fires we asked to be lit on the day and this just added to the personal and cosy feel of the venue. The pumpkins used as table centrepieces also proved to be a low cost but effective way to enhance our autumnal theme.
DIY – tell us about any handcrafted elements of your wedding…
I tried to do as much of the wedding as possible. I made all the wedding stationery (invitations, place cards, order of service), the chalkboard (menu board, photopod sign and the rules of the dancefloor). The conker hearts were made from old coat hangers and conkers collected from our wedding guests a year before our wedding. The photo montage from our family weddings of the past. The wedding favours we just bought sparklers and bought the cards from eBay.
The wedding cake: traditional or quirky?
Traditional in the sense of fruit! We wanted a cake that was just one thick tier as the height for the cake was from an old tree stump. We had two layers put in the cake but rustically iced as one in an off white icing so that we could (traditionally) save one layer of the cake.

On the day tips and advice:
Relax and trust the professionals. Just enjoy the company of your friends and family and each other. Stay true to you and your husband-to-be’s wishes as other people will certainly have their input in the matter but you have to do what you want as it’s your day. Savour every second as it truly does fly by and set a limit of meeting and greeting. I made sure I got round as many people as possible before 9pm as then I wanted to enjoy the dancefloor.
What’s the best thing about being married?
Having that life-long companion there who you know will be there for you no matter what life throws at you. It’s a big commitment you are making and it’s a great feeling that you belong to another who loves you unconditionally.
