Quintessentially English – peonies, duck racing and spacehoppers at Sopley Mill, with Ian H Photography

The phrase ‘quintessentially English’ mightn’t immediately bring to mind spacehoppers or rubber duck racing… and yet. 😉 There are so many nostalgic, quirky and bizarre English traditions to choose from when it comes to outdoor games and entertaining your guests, I’d love to see more weddings like Hannah and Neil’s!

Their day was deliciously pretty – with a wonderful soft pink peony bouquet, a picturesque setting and miles of home made bunting. Hannah is so, so beautiful – Neil’s a gorgeous groom too! But once again (and as with every one of my favourite weddings) the wonderful images show that in the end, the wedding is all about the people.

Delightful details set the scene and make for a pretty, welcoming wedding space which I adore – the little trees in the ceremony room are fabulous! –  but the people make this one of the best weddings I’ve seen. The duck race brings delight; the space-hopping makes me wish I’d been there.

Thank you so much lovely Hannah and Neil for sharing your day with us. You’re amazing!!

Our wedding story: Hannah and Neil

Wedding photographer’s website:

www.ianH.co.uk

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer?

Yes! Ian captured our day perfectly.

Wedding venue:

Sopley Mill, Mill Lane, Sopley, Hampshire BH23 7AU

Wedding date:

17th August 2014

Can you describe your wedding in a single sentence?

A friendly informal wedding at a picturesque setting for our closest family and friends.

What was your reaction to seeing your wedding photos for the first time?

We are absolutely thrilled with the photographs, they captured the feel of the day perfectly!

Your wedding style or theme:

Country Chic.

How long did you spend planning your wedding?

8 months

Best bit of budget advice?

BBQ buffet for the wedding breakfast, it was a massive hit!.

Wedding invitations and on the day stationery:

Personally designed by the bride’s sister: Bobbie Tree https://uk.linkedin.com/pub/bobbie-tree/39/301/212

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

Absolutely. I had a very specific dress in mind, which made the search very difficult…but once I saw it I knew It was exactly what I was looking for.

Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:

My dress was called ‘Cassie’, from Brides of Southampton

Glitz and sparkle – the bride’s accessories:

Shoes from Début at Debenhams

Lace Top from Preloved.com

Earrings from Accessorize

Specially made veil from Dream Veils – http://www.dream-veils.co.uk/

Suited and booted – the groom wore:

A tailored navy blue suit from Reiss

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?

Asymmetrical full skirt dresses from Coast

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?

Make-up was DIY – I had a Bobbi Brown make-up tutorial session and it is such a good idea, as you not only have the make up for your day you can keep it and it lasts for ages afterwards.

Hair was done by a hairdresser.

Wedding flowers:

Laura Betteridge Flowers

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?

The venue was a blank canvas but didn’t really need much doing to it. We just added some bunting, chalkboards, sweets table & table runners. Then we actually re-used some tree decorations & hay bales from a wedding the day before!

DIY – tell us about any handcrafted elements of your wedding…

We made metres & metres of bunting – which was the most time-consuming of all the decorating. We made all the wedding stationery, got a DIY cake from M&S & went to Macro and put together a sweets table.

The wedding cake: traditional or quirky?

Entertainment:

The Magic Tones: http://www.themagictones.co.uk/

We also staged a rubber duck race on the day. Guests chose to decorate them with marker pens themselves & one of the ushers sang us a few Frank Sinatra songs outside during our drinks reception – the sun even came out for it!

On the day tips and advice:

Relax, enjoy every moment and your guests will too!

What’s the best thing about being married?

A day of incredible memories that will last a lifetime.
