Sometimes the theme comes first, sometimes the colours inspire a wedding theme… and sometimes, both work together like a dream. Today I have an elegant, chic combination of yellows and blues – the almost obligatory colour for a nautical wedding style. It’s fabulous…
Lovely Caroline Nicholson Photography got in touch when I asked for images of wedding bouquets on Facebook, and we were soon chatting about styled shoots… I loved this nautical wedding styled shoot she showed me and simply had to share it with you today! The venues are spectacular: HMS Gannet is a lovingly restored Victorian naval ship, and Commissioner’s House is Britain’s oldest surviving naval building dating back to 1704. Both are incredible backdrops for today’s styled shoot – and would be amazing for a nautical wedding!
Caroline told me “the idea behind the shoot was simple: I wanted to do a creative shoot, but go back to the whole reason I started shooting weddings, to capture the elegance and glamour of a couple in love, while showing off an incredible venue, as well as being quintessentially English.”
“We wanted a Nautical/Naval themed shoot to show off our incredible venue, using natural light as that’s how I shoot, and it had to be stylish, sophisticated and most of all classic.
“We had real life couple Clare and Karim modelling for us at the incredible Historic Dockyard in Chatham. They had just got married and loved it so much they were dying to do it all over again. The venue is a photographer’s dream and has been used for filming numerous Hollywood blockbusters: it’s currently filming Mr Selfridge and Call The Midwife.
“We then had our groom styled by the team at an incredible men’s fashion label Hawkins and Shepherd (formerly Pin Collar Shirts UK) who are currently dressing people like David Gandy in their hand made pin collar shirts and mens tailoring, as well as embracing some of the best local wedding talent I know.
