It’s been a little while since I featured a castle wedding, and I’d almost forgotten how spectacular they can be! Today – a reminder via one of the best: this is Angela and Shawn’s Lulworth Castle wedding. You will be blown away – it’s incredible.
The castle dates back to the 17th century and is fiercely proud of its history – the knight who features throughout today’s blog post will attest to that! (He’s the one with the Mr & Mrs sign between his teeth…) Angela decorated the reception room with hundreds of candles in jam jars and the effect is beautiful.
Thanks to lovely creative wedding photographer Paul Underhill for sharing his images of such a gorgeous castle wedding with us today.

Our Lulworth Castle wedding, by Angela and Shawn
Our wedding report: Angela and Shawn
Wedding photographer’s website:
Were you pleased with your wedding photographer?
Absolutely delighted. Could not have been any better! Paul was professional and discreet. He has a fabulous sense of humour and it was a pleasure to have him share the day with us.
Wedding venue:
Lulworth Castle, Lulworth, Dorset
Wedding date:
14th March 2014
Can you describe your wedding in a single sentence?
A combination of everything that mattered to us all wrapped up with romance, personality and intimacy.
What was your reaction to seeing your wedding photos for the first time?
They were perfect and just what we wanted to be able to remember our fabulous day
Your wedding style and theme:
Personal and intimate to both of us
Any happy tears on the day?
Yes from the groom – he will say he had something in his eye!!
How did the two of you meet?
When I worked as a nurse and Shawn was a paramedic who brought me a patient. He asked me for a blanket and I gave him my phone number
How long did you spend planning your wedding?
1 year 3 months
Best bit of budget advice?
Always add on another £2000 to what every you think you will spend for the ‘little bits’ that you don’t account for that all add up!
Wedding invitations and on the day stationery:
Luggage labels and Shawn designed the wedding invites himself.
Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?
Yes but I still had my doubts until the moment Shawn saw me and cried.
Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:
Catherine Westwood – Abbi Chapel Bridal, Taunton
Glitz and sparkle: the bride’s accessories:
Simple drop earrings, and my tiffany necklace which was my something old. I didn’t need too much – the dress was detailed enough
The groom wore:
Navy tails and trousers with ivory waistcoat and gold tie, the other male wedding party had petrol blue ties.
Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?
They wore petrol blue dresses but I left the shape and design up to them as they were all different shapes and sizes and ages!
Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?
Hair by ‘Amazing Face’
Make up by Liz Sales who I met in the Mac Store in Bournemouth
Wedding flowers:
Simple, small, white and wired – not hand tied.
What do you remember most about the wedding ceremony?
Shawn’s face when he saw me walk down the aisle
General styling – did your venue need much decoration?
Yes complete decoration. We had hundreds (literally) of candles. The best thing was my jam jars which I spent a year collecting, de-labelling and putting wire handles on to hang all around the castle. They were all shapes and sizes, really cheap to do and everyone commented on them.
The wedding cake: traditional or quirky?
My mum made it. A mixture of traditional and quirky..
Traditional Fruit Cake with individual cakes for people to take home
Entertainment:
We had a full size F1 Car for a driving competition and a DJ in the evening
On the day tips and advice:
Enjoy every moment. Make time just for each other. Have fun and smile. Don’t let the behaviour of others affect your memories.
Video the service – we forgot!
Have a good photographer as you can never re-do it!
What’s the best thing about being married?
Having the same name.
