Helen & Andy’s fabulous country fete wedding at The Cowshed, Gloucestershire with Christy Blanch Photography

Helen and Andy’s Gloucestershire wedding is everything a country fete should be: warm and welcoming, full of flowers and pretty decor, and created with the help of friends and family – with details and gifts including flowers grown from seed by a kind neighbour, a wedding cake made by a friend of the bride’s Mum and some fabulous hand painted wedding signs.

The venue is one of the stars of this outdoor wedding and from Helen’s wedding report I gather the venue owners were true stars, helping to create the perfect day. I loved hearing how Helen had been on a screen printing course and designed all of the wedding invitations – isn’t that fabulous?

Our wedding report: Helen and Andy

Wedding photographer’s website:

www.christyblanch.com

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer?

Yes! Christy took the most amazing photos.

Wedding venue:

The Cow Shed at Park Mill Farm, Wotton Under Edge, Gloucestershire

What made you choose your wedding venue?

I had in my mind that I wanted a country fete/ vintage style wedding that had to be outdoors as we are both quite outdoorsy people but I could find anything suitable. Just when I was about to give up I found Park Mill Farm and it was exactly what I had in mind, it was perfect!

Can you describe your wedding in a single sentence?

The most magical and special day in our lives so far.

What was your reaction to seeing your wedding photos for the first time?

I cried when I first saw them, they were just perfect.

Your wedding style and theme:

Country fete/ vintage/ garden party

Any happy tears on the day?

The day before when driving to the venue, a tiny bit on the day when Diana our celebrant read out Andy’s poem he wrote for me and the day after when sitting with my new husband reading all of the cards and guest book.

How did the two of you meet?

We met 15 years ago at a friend’s party.

How long did you spend planning your wedding?

About 10 crazy months.

Best bit of budget advice?

You can do things on a budget – either DIY or ask friends and family to help, they are usually more than happy to help and feel part of it. See if you can negotiate with your suppliers, definitely look out for wedding shop sample sales.

Wedding invitations and on the day stationery:

My husband runs a printing business so he did a lot of the printing for the stationery but for the invites I did a screen printing course and created them all on this course.

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

Yes! I had seen the same dress 3 months before but no way could afford the dress then, I went to Dragonfly in Leckhampton where they were having a sample sale and found the same dress by the same designer for a massive 70% off 🙂

Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:

Stuart Parvin dress from Dragonfly, Leckhampton, Cheltenham

Glitz and sparkle: the bride’s accessories:

Shoes from Monty Smiths, Cheltenham. Simple pearl necklace from Dragonfly, lace cuff on wrist, and hair piece in hair from Posy and Pearl and handmade rings from R. J. Spicer in Leckhampton

The groom wore:

White shirt and tie from Next, brown jeans and boots from River Island and waist coat from White Stuff.

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?

Thyme green from Coast with hand made sashes by one of the bridesmaids

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?

Professional: Ali Richards, came to the venue from The Beauty Spot, Minchinhampton

Wedding flowers:

Mostly all grown from seed by a very kind neighbour, except bouquet from Sara at Aqua florist.

What do you remember most about the wedding ceremony?

Just how relaxed it felt and how happy everyone was, the weather was a perfect summer’s day.

Wedding readings?

Two poems Andy wrote.

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?

We had a lot of help from friends, family, neighbours and the venue couple Lara and Oliver – everyone helped create the perfect look.

The wedding cake: traditional or quirky?

Chocolate cake with blueberries and strawberries. Made by my Mum’s friend.

Entertainment:

Flight of K – a great band who got everyone dancing.

On the day tips and advice:

Enjoy it and stop to take small snap shots in your mind as it goes sooo quick.

Try not to do too much days before the wedding as you could get ill when you finally stop.

What’s the best thing about being married?

I feel complete and loved

Quick supplier list for other brides and grooms:

Catering: (for the evening do) Lara and Oliver at Park Mill Farm

Suzi – Dragonfly (dress)

Ali Richards The Beauty Spot – hair and makeup

Flight of K – band

Jewellery – Posy and Pearl
