Pink peonies and roses for a simple, pretty wedding in Birmingham, by Darren Gair Photography

Lisa and Frank make such a gorgeous couple, and their wedding in Birmingham was sweet and simple with a focus on friends and family. Lisa describes their day as ‘the best day of our lives’ – and told me she loved her dress so much she didn’t want to take it off!

Details were kept to a minimum and the highlights of today’s featured wedding for me are the portrait photos of the happy couple – they’re just fabulous.

Can you describe your wedding in a single sentence?

It was the best day of our lives

What was your reaction to seeing your wedding photos for the first time?

They captured every moment of the day perfectly.

Your wedding style and theme:

Lace and pearls with a little bit of glitter.

Any happy tears on the day?

I nearly cried during the ceremony but didn’t want to ruin my make up.

How did the two of you meet?

Frank was working away when we met. I was 17 and he was 21. I lived in Aylesbury and he was from Birmingham, 8 years later I am living in Birmingham and we are happily married.

How long did you spend planning your wedding?

18 months

Best bit of budget advice?

Be realistic! We saved money in some areas to spend in others.

Wedding invitations and on the day stationery:

I made the invitations, order of service, table plan and name tags.

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

YES! Every time I had a fitting and even more on the day. I didn’t want to take it off.

Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:

The dress was Blue by Enzoani. I got it from the wedding show in Birmingham and Amanda Kim Bridal designs in Halesowen did the alterations.

Glitz and sparkle: the bride’s accessories:

Pearl earrings (my something old), my veil also had pearls on it and glittery shoes

The groom wore:

His suit was from H&M and and shirt from Next.

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?

Lipsy dresses

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?

Professional – Kerry Baines. She was fantastic and worth every penny.

Wedding flowers:

Roses, peonies, gypsophila, carnations. I got the flowers from the flower market in town (I had great fun shopping for them) and my friend put them together for me

What do you remember most about the wedding ceremony?

I couldn’t stop smiling

Wedding readings?

My aunty and frank’s cousins did some readings in the church

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?

The venue didn’t need too much: we had chair covers, a back drop, candles and flowers.

The wedding cake: traditional or quirky?

Traditional cake with four flavours: chocolate orange, vanilla, lemon and carrot.

Entertainment:

The hotel provided a DJ

On the day tips and advice:

Take a moment to take in the day – it goes past so fast! And enjoy yourself.

What’s the best thing about being married?

It’s ‘forever and ever’
