Glam Hatters’ Janie is one of the most enthusiastic, friendly and charming wedding suppliers you’ll find. She’s the milliner and designer behind Glam Hatters‘ tea parties, and we’ve been chatting online about her latest adventures. What a fabulously fascinating life Janie leads! As I type I’ve just realised this is the perfect example of a compelling wedding business story: Janie had me hooked with tales of her adventures, from her own wedding day to international catwalks to Vietnamese beaches to Glam Hatters’ London HQ… so I’ll share her story along with some images to showcase her talents too. Enjoy!

“Since I last emailed I have travelled the world for a year (with husband whilst pregnant and with a toddler!) and still continued to run my Glam Hatters Hen parties through it all. I have answered customer enquiries from my hospital bed, from a maternity ward in Brisbane and from Lady Elliot Island at 3am to stay with local UK time! I’ve made tiaras on the beach in Hoi An, Vietnam while my 2 year old was at the nursery and sent them home to my studio manager to send out to gorgeous English brides. I’ve been inspired by lanterns in Malaysia, flowers in The Cooke Islands, tattoos in New Zealand, and full on Glam in South Beach, Miami. I’ve been back in London since November and my business is going from strength to strength, it used to be my baby but now I’ve got 2 babies I think of it more as oxygen – it keeps the creative part of me alive and kicking and I love it.
“I have collaborated with the photographer Lou Denim quite a few times – once for a Glam Hatters’ Tea Party but also for pictures of the headpieces I made on the beach in Vietnam along with more experimental pieces. The model we used is an actress called Valane Kane who starred in The Fall and Jump: she had such an unusual look and I loved working with her. Lou is also a fashion photographer. She’s shot for a lot of campaigns and fashion magazines.
“I studied Fashion Design at Central Saint Martins and previous to Glam Hatters showed my collections at London and Paris Fashion week and sold my collections all over the UK, Europe, Russia and Japan. Lou and I both love fashion so work really well together on shoots.”
“Lou Denim also shot my vintage wedding! (She did have to put her camera down for 10 minutes to do a reading in the church!) My wedding was kind of low-fi. It was in a village hall in Oxfordshire and was basically a massive, super fun party with most of the guests wearing my hats!!! The actual ceremony was in a really, really old church but wasn’t solemn at all, my main memory of the ceremony is everyone singing their heads of to the hymns, the bagpipes playing me in with Amazing Grace (Scottish Dad) and Peter trying to hold it together and not cry too much!
