Introducing… The Alphabet Lounge and their big wedding letters

Hello everyone! Today’s wedding blog is all about the LOVE! I’ve just discovered Jo and her independent business The Alphabet Lounge… and I’ve fallen head over heels for them! Fancy making a statement at your wedding? This is the most wonderful way to do it…

I love anything to do with letters and typography. I told Jo “I dream of plastering massive words in bright colours all over the walls of my house one day!” and it’s true! If I wasn’t renting an apartment I’d be painting song lyrics all around my house… and if I was planning my wedding I’d most definitely be buying some big letters from Jo and then decorating with those too!

I asked Jo to tell me her story: “The big letters business idea came about after my sister got married last summer and was searching for some decorated letters as part of her wedding décor. She was wanting to use and support local Kent based businesses, but couldn’t find what she was looking for, so I handmade her some LOVE letters using lashings of PVA glue, sequins, ribbon and lace! They looked very pretty hanging in the tree, sparkling in the sunshine and attracted attention from other engaged couples at the wedding who wanted me to make some for them too. I suddenly saw that designing big and beautiful decorated letters for people could be a creative and enjoyable business to set up. Shortly after their wedding The Alphabet Lounge was born!

I would have to say that my sister’s wedding was my favourite wedding so far! Of course from a personal point of view it was my little sister marrying the man of her dreams and was such a beautiful and romantic day to be part of, but also the spark that began my new business! I wouldn’t be where I am now without that wonderful day! But every wedding you are part of is special as you feel you are adding that little extra something to the most important day of a couples life which is amazing! They also get to keep the letters as a lasting momento of the day they became man and wife!

In terms of making the letters look good, I had a clear idea that I wanted really big letters to make a statement when hanging on a wall or in trees and that I wanted to offer couples beautiful bright colours and patterns that really stand out. All the designs in the gallery on my website can be printed on to the letters and any words or letters are possible to make. We are also in the process of looking at a new range of hearts and arrows too.

Alternatively, the bespoke service I offer allows couples to compliment their own wedding colour scheme with sequins in a selection of colours or choose something really quirky and fun I can decorate the letters with for them. Most recently I’ve made letters covered with masses of fake flowers which looked gorgeous.”
