I just adore today’s wedding at Scotney Castle. Clare and Mike chose the most elegant of venues for an outdoor ceremony in May and were blessed with fabulous sunshine.
Their decor is charming and beautiful in subtle pastel tones, and Clare looks stunning in a lace embroidered dress which really flatters her figure. My favourite details are the flowers in jars, and my favourite photo is the one of Clare with her adorable little daughter – Mike looks fab too of course – every bit the English gent.
I know you’ll love this and I’d like to say a huge thank you to Nicola Milns Photography for getting in touch and offering to share her images with us all today. Find out more about Nicola here:

Can you describe your wedding in a single sentence?
Our wedding day was perfect, it was a true English country garden wedding.
What was your reaction to seeing your wedding photos for the first time?
Seeing the photos for the first time brought back all the memories of the day, and we loved seeing moments we missed on the day.
Your wedding style and theme:
Traditional fairy tale castle mixed with an English country garden wedding
Any happy tears on the day?
Yes during the speeches
How did the two of you meet?
Mike and I have known each other since our teens whilst on a night out
How long did you spend planning your wedding?
Best bit of budget advice?
I made most of our décor ourselves, jam jars and candles wrapped in hessian and lace, and small terracotta pots with chilli seeds for the men and lavender seeds for the ladies as favors. We also opted for a hog roast rather than a traditional wedding breakfast as this saved money and suited the garden party theme of our wedding.
Wedding invitations and on the day stationery:
I made my own invites with card and lace.
Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?
It was everything I wanted, something to show off my figure whilst being elegant at the same time
Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:
Pure essence dress from precious moments.
Glitz and sparkle: the bride’s accessories:
The groom wore:
Mike wore a traditional suit from Moss Bros
Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?
The girls wore lavender coloured dresses from Coast
Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?
DIY and a family friend did my hair
Florist in the forest.. pastel colours with lace ribbon
What do you remember most about the wedding ceremony?
We had an outdoor ceremony in the grounds of Scotney Castle and I felt like the luckiest girl alive surrounded by all the people I love
General styling – did your venue need much decoration?
We had matching flowers on the guests chairs and on the gate for our ceremony and at The Hotel Du Vin we had bunting, hessian and lace wrapped jars and candles and polaroid washing line that we used to pin up the polaroids our friend had taken during the day
The wedding cake: traditional or quirky?
We bought our wedding cake from Waitrose and decorated it with some bunting 🙂
Premiere string duo for the ceremony and we hired Mariachi Mexteca for the evening which was so much fun
On the day tips and advice:
Be creative and organised! Try to make the day your own and really think about what your future husband would like! Try to relax the day before – the girls and I went to a spa and had the full works!
What’s the best thing about being married?
Spending the rest of my life with my husband and daughter!
