Cathy and Alan were married at Great Fosters in Surrey – a spectacular venue with so many gorgeous locations for beautiful photographs. Great Fosters dates from the 16th century and has so much character with its grand rooms and portraits, wood panelling and extensive landscaped gardens.
Cathy’s wedding dress is beautiful and comes all the way from a bridal boutique in San Francisco! She told me, “it was one of the most beautiful shops I have ever seen and I could have purchased all of the dresses. My dress was so unique and special, I could not wait to wear it and loved it on the day!”
Today’s wedding is one of those lovely classic English weddings with a focus on the celebration itself rather than all the little details. When I asked Cathy to describe their wedding day in a single sentence she said it was about “love, friends, family, laughter, well wishes, great food, drink, dancing & fun.”
It’s all captured beautifully by wedding photographer Richard Ware. If you’re looking for a photographer in Surrey do visit his website at:

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?
Professional hair with Jackie Windsor who came to the hotel on the day and was fantastic! No fuss and did exactly what I wanted, I have never seen my hair look so nice. Had my make up done by one of my best friends, Louise Eddy, who has professional qualifications and another full time job, she should go professional!
Nicola Mehio who did all of the flowers for the venue, as well as dressing the venue and providing the wedding bouquets and who did an awesome job! I did not even see her on the day, just arrived to a beautiful room and had all the flowers delivered to my room in the hotel.
What do you remember most about the wedding ceremony?
Walking up the aisle, seeing all the people I loved who were so happy for us, and seeing Alan at the top looking gorgeous and being so sure and happy about marrying him.

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?
The venue was beautiful in its own right, a converted barn, so did not need much decoration, Nicola did a great job with flowers and candles.
The wedding cake: traditional or quirky?
Traditional chocolate cake made my make up artist’s Mum who is so talented. It looked beautiful but most importantly it tasted incredible, everyone was talking about it afterwards!
On the day tips and advice:
We were very lucky to have such professional hotel staff, they ensured everything went so smoothly, we never had to think of anything! Top tip is not to stress about attention to detail and remember that everyone is there for you, wishing you the best, so simply relax and enjoy an incredible experience.
What’s the best thing about being married?
I still get a kick out of saying ‘my husband.’ One year in and it simply gets better all the time!
