A rustic and relaxed wedding at Pangdean Barn with Peony Brides

Ed and Christian’s barn wedding is lovely – with so many homemade details and some fab finds on, they created a perfectly rustic wedding day. The venue is Pangdean Barn just outside of Brighton, and images are by Jackie at Peony Brides.

Christian looks beautiful in a Johanna Hehir wedding dress, and I really love Ed’s suit as well – they’re a stylish couple with an eye for detail but the overall feeling I get from their day is one of celebration and enjoyment with tons of love from friends and family… which makes it all the more special.

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Beyond delighted, Jackie did a fantastic job capturing our day from all the details right the way through to our couple pictures at the Bandstand, group shots at Pangdean and the evening reception.

Can you describe your wedding in a single sentence?

A wonderful day having so many friends and family altogether at the same time and our daughter (aged 12) playing her flute and son (aged 9) reading at the Town Hall made it extra special and so memorable

What was your reaction to seeing your wedding photos for the first time?

Jaw dropped, massive smiles, lots of laughter

Get organised – deal with the big items early, then you can relax and enjoy sorting out the remainder + also decide early on what’s most important for you to spend money on

Rainbow Bridal Shoes in ivory and Grandma’s antique diamond earrings. I wore a Verity stole, marabou feather (antique pink) – and an ivory ribbon and crystal headband from

The groom wore:

A brown tweed suit, orange tie and cuff links – Gresham Blake, Brighton  and tan Loake shoes

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?

Teal maxi dress with jewelled waistband and ivory faux fur shrugs all from Coast, peacock hair clips handmade by Jordana at sold by both in Brighton.

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?

Hair by Defuse Brighton- I did my own make up with the help of my bridesmaid – we used Mac cosmetics.

Wedding flowers:

White lisianthus, baby blue eucalyptus, paper white narcissi, pussy willow, gypsophila, shamrock bloom and kermit. These were mixed with peacock feathers, guinea fowl feathers and placed in mason/ kilner style jars and school milk bottles wrapped with brown garden twine and lace.

We used several variations of these flowers in the bouquets and button holes, but the bride’s bouquet was inspired by large bouquets from the 1920s and included peacock feathers and succulents.

The ceremony:

In the Town Hall my most emotional part of the entire day was when Christian entered the room, then when she started crying during the vows. Watching our daughter play the flute during the ceremony and listening to the readings by our son and brothers.

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?

Homemade ivory bunting, punched paper hearts, maps, flowers, pussy willow, garden twine, lace, luggage tags, peacock and guinea fowl feathers

The meal was a big part of our wedding. We used Pangdean’s caterers who provided canapés (haggis potatoes, venison sausages, scallops, cheese scones), a main course of lamb shank, mash and veg and lemon tart for dessert. We bought Champagne and wine  in France (red – Château Méaume Bordeaux Supérieur 2009 / white – Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie 2011) and also served Harveys Best Bitter. We chose our favourite cocktails: Moscow Mules and Mojitos

We had a sweet stall instead with our childhood favourites

Enjoy every second because it goes so quickly, everyone tells you that but it really does!
