Our wedding report: Chris & Martina
Wedding photographer’s website:
Were you pleased with your wedding photographer?
More than pleased!
Sandburn Hall, Flaxton, York
Can you describe your wedding in a single sentence?
Our wedding was delightfully quirky, breathtaking and altogether magical.
What was your reaction to seeing your wedding photos for the first time?
Happy and exciting.
Your wedding style and theme:
Modern Barn and Chic.
Any happy tears on the day?
How did the two of you meet?
That’s a long story, and depends who you ask! But let’s just say for now, through a mutual friend.
How long did you spend planning your wedding?
Only 10 months (and that included honeymoon planning)
Best bit of budget advice?
Shop at all the wedding shops or online, buy nothing at first and see what you can make on your own, you’ll be surprised how easy it is! If you still don’t think you could do it yourself, well then it’s obviously worth paying for! Also, don’t be afraid to barter, ask for special discounts and see what you can get for free with any/all of your suppliers. You’ll be surprised what you can get!
Wedding invitations and on the day stationery:
We had pink 3D butterflies and our seating plans were Butterfly named tables! Do some digging online for ideas, then approach different suppliers for the best cost.
Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?
Yes, at first sight! I tried another on just to be sure, but couldn’t bear to be parted with mine.
Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:
Copplestones Bridal, Liverpool. It was a bargain!
Glitz and sparkle: the bride’s accessories:
Pearl necklace and earings. Elvish vine tiara, with inlaid pearls. And of course a flower bracelet given to me by my husband on the morning of our wedding.
The groom wore:
Mid Grey Short Jacket and trousers, ivory waistcoat and cravat.
Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?
Dusky pink ¾ length dresses with bow tie detail on the back. Butterfly diamante necklaces, and dusky pink strapped kitten heel sandals.
Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?
Summer wild flowers. We asked for them to appear as though somebody had simply wandered through a flower meadow and picked them by hand. Displayed in ivory and pick watering cans for a rustic feel. With a dusky pink bow to match the colour of our wedding.
Mostly traditional, however the song “Into the west” from the closing credits of Lord of the Rings played as Martina walked down the aisle.
Chief Bridesmaid did a reading from the film “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin”. Chris also did a wedding reading from the film “The Notebook”.
General styling – did your venue need much decoration?:
Umm, no not really since the venue itself was so beautiful with big floor to ceiling windows overlooking acres of beautiful landscape. The interior had large wooden beams and a warm rustic feel. We simply added some personal touches, with balloons and hanging decor like signs, photos and quirkly little messages.
The wedding cake: traditional or quirky?
Most definitely quirky! We had a bride and groom hedgehog couple on the top. The cake itself was a pixie woodland theme and on the top was a fantastically decorated fantasy cottage. Our cake supplier was the best!
Live Band – The Academy. Followed by DJ.
On the day tips and advice:
Try to just relax and enjoy it. Let other people worry about how its going, and try to soak in all the memories from the day.
What’s the best thing about being married?
You’re no longer planning a wedding! Haha. No…I suppose it’s just that you feel closer to the other person, you’re sure they know how you feel and you have had the opportunity to share that with all the people closest to you.
