It’s nice to feature a local wedding whenever I can, and Rebecca and Ashley’s simple but timeless wedding comes from just down the road from English Wedding Blog HQ on the edge of the Lake District. It’s lovely – Rebecca wears a dress by Temperley London, hubby Ashley made the wedding cake, instead of bridesmaids they have three page boys. This is a very personal wedding with a focus on elegance and classic styling, no over the top frills but plenty of help from the happy couple’s family to create the perfect English wedding.
Thanks to wedding photographer Jenna Carpenter for submitting the wedding to the blog, and to the gorgeous couple for such a lovely wedding report. Congratulations! I love this most of all: “I love the ring on my finger, I feel proud, I simply feel amazing. It’s been 2 months and I’m still on top of the world!”
A timelessly elegant wedding in Cumbria: Rebecca and Ashley
Our wedding report: Rebecca and Ashley
Wedding photographer’s website:
Were you pleased with your wedding photographer?
Absolutely, she captured the atmosphere of the day and emotions in her pictures, when I look back at them I remember exactly what I was thinking/feeling!!
Holy trinity church, Millom.
Can you describe your wedding in a single sentence?
Intimate, beautiful, unique, Christmassy… perfect!
What was your reaction to seeing your wedding photos for the first time?
I absolutely fell in love with them, they are beautiful!! We have lovely elegant ones and also quirky wellington boot ones which I love!! Best of both!
Your wedding style and theme:
Any happy tears on the day?
Yes from my father, and almost from me when I saw my future hubby at the end of the aisle… but a smile somehow beamed through!
How did the two of you meet?
We met 7 years ago through a mutual friend, we swapped numbers as he was going to put a good word in for me where he worked at the time (apparently!) I got the job though! We became friends and became a couple about three months after that!
How long did you spend planning your wedding?
About 6 months. I only had my son in June so was pretty hectic.
Best bit of budget advice?
Try to do homemade things, saves so much money, my husband made the cake and cupcakes, I made my own bouquet, did my own make up, we used my dad’s audi as transport, it looked lovely with pink ribbons tied on, also having a Christmas wedding the church and venue was already decorated with trees and fairy lights, looked stunning and didn’t cost a penny!!
Wedding invitations and on the day stationery:
Favours were rock sweets (like blackpool rock) which had just married through the middle of it, in pink organza bags, I had rose petals spread across the table all of this from confetti, we had filigree butterfly placecards in pink, which looked stunning on the wine glasses, they were from celebrationsplus.com.
Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?
I fell in love before I had even seen it in person, I had the same dress as Millie Mackintosh, I saw it on her and had been trying to pick out dresses for weeks but knew hers was “the one” and I HAD to have it!
Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:
Alice Temperley bluebell dress, from the 2013 florence collection, temperley London.
Glitz and sparkle: the bride’s accessories:
Roses of grace headpiece, timeless elegance pearl earrings, starlet of pearl bracelet, all from glitzy secrets.com, ivory ballet pumps from Debenhams, wellington boots by hunter, B by ted baker underwear, also from Debenhams.
The groom wore:
Two piece navy blue suit by Jeff Banks at Debenhams, ivory waistcoat and pink cravat from formal tailor.
Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?
No bridesmaids but my three boys wore a three piece, pink waistcoats and cravats, from childrenswear, my eldest who is four, was the ring bearer, I bought a stunning heart shaped ring cushion from etsy for him to hold! Such a personal touch.
Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?
Did my own make up, pretty neutral as I wanted it to be timeless, and had my usual hairdresser do my hair, was a side bun, pretty simple but elegant.
I bought 7 Pink sweet avalanche roses, some gypsophila, and made my own bouquet and simply tied it with the same pink ribbon we tied around the cake, they looked beautiful I am so proud of them!
We had a small ceremony which was fantastic, we had a singer to sing take that, rule the world during the signing, it was beautiful!!
We had my husbands grandfather read Corinthians 13.
General styling – did your venue need much decoration?
No not at all – it was Christmas so had all the décor for free!!
The wedding cake: traditional or quirky?
Traditional cake which my hubby made, two tier vanilla sponge, we got a lot of stuff from the craft company, the little man and wife on the cake which I adore is from confetti, we also made cupcakes too and the décor for them is from etsy.
We had a sit down meal so kinda made our own! We had the Buble Christmas album playing!! Everyone commented how nice and chilled out it all was compared to other weddings.
On the day tips and advice:
Simply keep calm, relax, and enjoy! It goes in a flash. I tried my hardest to prolong the day, we also bought wellington boots and brollies – just incase!! Weather is one thing you cannot plan!!
What’s the best thing about being married?
I love having the same name, I love the ring on my finger, I feel proud, I simply feel amazing its been 2 months and I’m still on top of the world!! We are definitely much closer and a lot happier!
