A beautifully styled, colourful and eclectic London wedding – Jae-Marie and Daniel

Hello everyone! I hope you’re having the most amazing Christmas and enjoying a little time off work and with your families and friends. I promised myself the English Wedding Blog would have brand new features every day over the festive season, and today’s wedding is a real treat – definitely one not to miss!

Jae-Marie got in touch with me in November to tell me all about her beautiful eclectic London wedding to Dan, and I’m so delighted she did. What a stunning bride… a gorgeous couple in fact, and the most inspiring and creative wedding day! The flowers are a treat, and there’s fabulous styling by Bellaboo and Beau, specialist wedding stylists based in Sussex.

Your names: Jae-Marie & Daniel

Your wedding photographer’s website:

http://www.mattparryphotography.co.uk/

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer?

Matt was perfect, he produced the exact photos we were after, they showed all the emotion of the day….

What was your reaction to seeing your wedding photos for the first time?

I may have shed a tear or two 🙂

Wedding venue:

Rangers House, Blackheath & Locale Restaurant, Blackheath

Can you describe your wedding in a single sentence?

Our wedding was personal, fun, laid back and exactly what we wanted.

Your wedding style and theme:

Rustic, colourful, pretty, pastels, personal and relaxed

Any happy tears on the day?

Nervous tears from the bride!

How long did you spend planning your wedding?

12 months

Best bit of budget advice?

Do as much as you can yourself, if you have an idea in your mind, even if you explain this to someone else it probably will not come out as you imagined it, so do it yourself, saving money in the process – HOBBYCRAFT is your best friend!

Wedding invitations and on the day stationery:

Invitations were designed by me and printed by a friend, on the day stationery was created by www.bellabooandbeau.co.uk

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

The moment I put it on I knew it was mine!

Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:

Benjamin Roberts from Bell’amore, Bexleyheath

Glitz and sparkle: the bride’s accessories:

My bridesmaids gave me blinged Converse for the day after the ceremony – a godsend! And my present from Daniel on the day was diamond studs so those as well, and an Accessorize bracelet

The groom wore:

Tailored Reiss three piece suit, and bespoke shirt made by Peckham Rye in Soho

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?

My chief bridesmaid wore Ghost, other bridesmaids wore H&M, Flower Girls wore BHS

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?

An old school friend did my hair, and make up was done by my brother’s girlfriend who is a mac make-up artist so that was free 🙂

Wedding flowers:

For a month before the wedding my husband’s friend who runs a huge flower stall at the flower market was sending home bunches of flowers and greenery for me to look at in all colours, in the end we couldn’t decide so we literally brought every flower possible within the pastel colour theme, we had two vans deliver all the flowers directly from the market to my friend who is a florist that owns a flower shop in Welling, called the Welling Emporium, I delivered all jars, vintage bottles etc to him along with over 2,000 stems of flowers and he made it all up for me, bouquets, flower jars, button holes etc, which a friend picked up the morning of the wedding and dropped to Locale.

Wedding readings?

My chief bridesmaid read a funny poem about Daniel and I, very tongue in cheek, nothing too serious 🙂

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?

No, Rangers House is beautiful, as it’s an old historic building, we had no flowers or anything, the colours in there are amazing, with big windows to let in loads of light, the only thing I had to do was order chairs.  Rangers House has amazing tapestries lining the walls and the colour is also darker pastels, so it fitted perfectly.

Locale is also a beautifully decorated restaurant, all dark mahogany and gold, so really we just wanted to lighten it a bit, hence the pastel coloured flowers, which brought the venue to life a bit I think.

The wedding cake: traditional or quirky?

Where do I start… we had a four tiered Victoria sponge cake made by http://www.allshapesandslices.co.uk/page_contemporary.html

We had a dessert table, rather than a sweet table which seems to be a common ‘quirk’ at weddings, we both love cake, and couldn’t decide what extra flavours we had, so we literally wanted all of our favourites! So a friend of mine made some amazing cakes for us in her kitchen! https://www.facebook.com/#!/OnceUponACupcakeLondon  We had:

  • Ferrero Rocher cakes in jam jars with wooden spoon attached, we also have strawberries and cream flavoured cake in jam jars.
  • Bounty cake pops and Lemon cake pops
  • Dark chocolate & white chocolate mini cupcakes and vanilla & chocolate mini cupcakes
  • Carrot cake push pops and chocolate gateaux push pops
  • We had a big red velvet cake and a bit coffee and walnut cake, we also had jars of rainbow cookies.

Entertainment:

The official entertainment was a DJ called Steve Goddard. A general theme at weddings is that the men seem to end up naked! So on our order of service we included a 11pm strip from one of our friends, which he happily obliged to, he was so drunk he did it 15 minutes earlier than arranged!

On the day tips and advice:

Don’t stress! When we left Rangers House we were running early, my husband told me that we couldn’t get into the reception venue so rather than worry we just told everyone to go into the Railway pub next door, so that’s what we did! Everyone thought it was actually arranged!

What’s the best thing about being married?

Having a lovely face to come home to every day, to be able to look forward to all the adventures that Daniel and I are going to have in the future, we have had many already but now it will be as husband and wife…. Oh and that he officially belongs to me! 🙂
