Hannah and Ben’s English outdoor wedding at Ashdown Park, East Sussex

The last wedding I went to was going to be an outdoor wedding in the Lake District in August. It was such a shame for the bride and groom that it poured down that day… but if the sun had shone it would have been so beautiful. It still was, of course! But it was beautiful inside. In contrast, today’s English outdoor wedding on the blog is one of those days where the dream of a sunny wedding ceremony really did come true. Beautiful Hannah and Ben were blessed with gorgeous weather and their wedding day was magical.

The bride and groom: Ben and Hannah

Your wedding photographer:

Chris Giles Photography

Chris Giles Photography

Wedding venue:

Ashdown Park Hotel East Sussex

Can you describe your wedding in a single sentence?

Our wedding was perfect, everything we had dreamt of.

What was your reaction to seeing your wedding photos for the first time? Were you pleased with your wedding photographer?

Total amazement that we looked ok! We fell in love with the photos instantly. Chris really did us proud!

Your wedding style and theme:

English summer wedding

Any happy tears on the day?

Plenty from both sides of the family. i could not get through my vows!

How long did you spend planning your wedding?

1 year

Best bit of budget advice?

Shop around, there is plenty of competition in the wedding business, don’t just go for the first thing you see

Invitations and stationery:

We created our own and had them printed by a friend, Lee from Sign Wizard

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

From day one I always wanted Ben’s nan to make my wedding dress. I did plenty of research and found my perfect design and it took her just under a month to make it for me. When I tried the finished dress on I couldn’t believe it. Maggie Levees is incredibly clever and talented.

Glitz and sparkle: the bride’s accessories:

I had pearl earrings given to me by Ben on the morning of our wedding and a head band of diamonds which my mother had made for me from The Pantiles Bride in Tunbridge Wells

The groom wore:

Dark navy 3 piece suit by Topman and brogues given to Ben from me on our wedding morning from Berties in London

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?

I had 5 bridesmaids and 3 flower girls. The bridesmaids had their dresses made for them again by Maggie, Ben’s nan, in sage green and the flower girls had dresses from Monsoon

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?

My hair was done by my friend and bridesmaid Claire Hearsay and my make up was done by Suzie Carter a family friend

Wedding flowers:

My uncle did my wedding flowers which he sourced from mainly his garden and our local florist – Pippins in Busted who also made by bouquet and bridesmaid bouquets

The ceremony:

Our ceremony was outside in the summer house at Ashdown Park next to the lake

Wedding readings?

We both said our own vows to each other after we did the legal readings. It was just perfect and made the wedding very intimate and everybody was full of love and happiness throughout the ceremony

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?

We hired chair covers and chairs for our outside ceremony. My uncle covered the venue in flowers and our friend made a board for us to welcome our guests with which sat outside the reception

The wedding cake: traditional or quirky?

Our wedding cake was made by Tina from Sprinkles and Swirls and was totally amazing. She hand crafted beautiful flowers in pastel pinks and oranges and it really was everything we wanted for our cake. It had three tiers: 1 fruit cake, 2 lemon drizzle and 3 Victoria sponge. The fruit was for our grandparents who liked the tradition

Entertainment:

We had our friend Kate sing for us when we were getting married and we had Hula Groove from London who were a live band and got everybody up dancing

On the day tips and advice:

Try to relax and enjoy every moment. The day just flies past and before you know it everyone has gone home and you’re rubbing your feet!

What’s the best thing about being married?

Knowing you will share the rest of your life with this special person who loves you as much as you love them
