Vaguely far-fetched marketing to engaged couples?

Marketing emails make me giggle. I can’t help it. Lavazza’s creative use of puns and idealism is guaranteed to make their coffee machine the number one item on your wedding gift list… forget the honeymoon fund, apparently a coffee machine (?) is the perfect wedding present!

Ah! His and hers coffee machines, in “wedding white” and black, sit side by side. The scene is set with cupcakes, a bouquet of flowers, and a coffee cup with a heart on top. Oh, and it says LOVE in big letters. Who’s sold?!

An “espressive” gift in “wedding white”. Nice!

They begin with a fabulous play on words: For a more ‘espressive’ wedding gift this season look no further than Italy’s favourite coffee Lavazza, who’s stylish A Modo Mio Extra coffee machines in wedding white or cool black make the perfect hand in marriage.

“Espressive”! Love it. And yes, it’s not just white, but wedding white. (Wonder if it’s more expensive than normal white?)

Coupled-up coffee lovers?

If you are a “coupled-up coffee lover”, beware. You won’t be able to resist! The A Modo Mio Extra is the ultimate kitchen gadget for coupled-up coffee lovers with its sleek design which is compact and easy to use. Newly-weds will be able to enjoy authentic Italian romance over a full-bodied Lavazza espresso or an indulgent creamy cappuccino for many years to come. Alternatively, give the gift of great coffee to a best man or maid of honour.

So I ask you. Have you been enjoying “authentic Italian romance” over coffee recently? Why does it sound dirty when I say it? Have you been sold any obscure items for your wedding day or gift list?!lavazza coffee image (2)

I’ll include the link, because they have entertained me: The Lavazza A Modo Mio Extra in white [remember folks, that’s special, “wedding white” not just normal plain old white white] or black, RRP £119 each are available from

Their misuse of ‘who’s’ instead of ‘whose’ makes me want to bite them! Yes, I am a grammar fascist 🙂

As an ex-PR, I’m used to the most tenuous of links being used to try and flog products, but at least these coffee machines have some vague ‘his and hers’ about them – I’ve seen SO much worse!

      Hi Belinda,
I didn’t even spot “who’s” – and I’m a proper pedant most of the time. I must have been too intent on the product. (Well done, Lavazza – you got me!)
I am hoping for more tenuous promotions to head for my inbox so I can share. Watch this space!

Oh bless… I can only imagine the brainstorm that created that one. I’ve participated in some brilliant marketing brainstorms. If you ever get invited to one, go. They are an absolute blast.

Yes Fiona, I’d have loved to be a fly on the wall too!
I trained in Marketing – it would be fascinating to go back and cringe at some of the discussions we must have had on projects at uni.

It is very convenient for the people who love coffee.
