A church wedding and reception at The Village Hotel, Warrington

Village Hotel Warrington wedding by Vickerstaff Photoraphy (25)Today’s beautiful wedding comes in two parts – there were so many lovely images from Lisa and Stewart’s big day I had to share this one across two days on English Wedding Blog. Lisa and Stewart chose Chester wedding photographers Vickerstaff Photography to capture their big day on camera. They were married at St Laurence Church and held their wedding reception at The Village Hotel in Warrington.

As always on English Wedding Blog, this is a real wedding with a story of its own, something a little different… and for the first time, we have a hockey team in the back of the church. Yes, they brought their sticks. You’ll have to look at the pictures and read Lisa and Stewart’s wedding story to find out why! Oh, and I mustn’t forget the Tactical Nuclear Penguin. That’s definitely a wedding blog first…

Who proposed, and how?

Stewart proposed at sunset on the beach at Boa Vista, Cape Verde. We said we were going to watch the sunset (as we try to do on every holiday) so we got ready for the evening, grabbed a drink and wandered down to the beautiful golden beach.

We were watching the sun set and Stewart had planned to get down on one knee just as the sun set. However, within 10 minutes, the sun had dropped out of the sky behind a haze – not very inspiring!

Lisa turned to Stewart and said “that wasn’t very good, let’s go and get a drink“, so quick as a flash, I said “actually, the reason I wanted to come down here was……” then dropping to one knee, I asked if she would marry me. So we went from the disappointment of the sunset to the excitement of our engagement. Definitely time for a drink now!!!!!

Memorable wedding moments:

Lisa wiping a tear from her eye during the vows and managing to pop her contact lens out.

The hockey girls doing a guard of honour going in and coming out of the church. (Both Lisa and I play hockey for Runcorn HC and the Girls have made it a bit of a tradition to form a guard of honour for any of the girls getting married)

3 best men. (Why just have 1 best man?!)

I recently met Jamie at one of our monthly North West Photographer’s jaunts.

Such an affable guy. I told him that I like his work. Have done for about 2 years but this was the first time he met me.

This post just re-affirms my belief. The attention to the details. To story telling. To the formal portraiture. The quality of the finishing on the images…all top notch.

As an example. Take the signing of the register. A tedious set up forced upon us photographers by ministers and registrars the land over. Jamie, like a number of us would do, waited. He waited for the other things that happen away from that norm. Sure we photograph the staged shot but the fun is in what happens in between.

You can see this in the shot where the minister is writing and the bride is enjoying a wonderful moment with her bride’s maids. This says so much more about the mood, the camaraderie and the day than any staged register signing shot could ever do.

Well done Jamie. You should be proud of this one.

    • Great pics, some really off the wall, very professional! Great wedding ,lovely couple, really enjoyed doing the wedding.
