Would you move your wedding for royalty?

Imagine the scenario: you’ve booked your wedding date, chatted to the vicar and are looking forward to getting married in a picturesque little church that probably means a lot to you… would you move over if another couple wanted it more?

Or, would you move over if another couple just wanted it, and were more famous? Or if they had more money?

The road to Scotland’s first royal wedding in 20 years

The story that Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall are getting married this summer in a church that was already booked by another couple is really making me think this morning. Read the full story on the BBC website.

Apparently what happened is that the vicar called the bride and groom who’d already booked, and asked them politely if they’d consider changing their plans for the royal couple. They said yes as a gesture of goodwill. I think that’s an incredibly generous thing to do…

but I’m not sure I would – the wedding date is the 30th of July, a date I imagine will be pretty hard to get a new booking for. Is it just me, though? What would it take for you to change your wedding plans for another couple?

One word. No. Unless they paid for the whole thing to be changed.

That’s so incredibly rude to even ask! I’d also assume that the vicar wouldn’t play part in overpowering someone else’s day and their want to marry on the day they choose in the place they choose!! The whole scenario is just bad taste

Bloomin heck, that couple are just far too nice, there is NO WAY I would change for anyone, no matter how rich or famous and I personally think it’s disgusting that the Vicar (of all people!) even had the cheek to ask!

Oooh some very strong reactions. Thanks ladies – I admire the couple but I think I’m with you, I wouldn’t change my plans for someone else without a little more pressure than there seems to have been in this scenario.

Think I’ll leave that one there before I say anything naughty!

Heee Salma. I like that you’d stand your ground. I can imagine you with a little “we shall not be moved” placard and everything.
I’d be with you 100% of the way!

what do you think?
