Saving and sharing the wedding planning images you love!

I love the concept behind Pinterest. It’s a bit new, but anything bright and shiny and ambitious makes me smile.

For brides and grooms planning a wedding, it’s a fantastic idea. Browse the web, spot an image you love, bang a pin in it. It’ll appear on your pin board at Pinterest. Such an easy way to save all the ideas you find and love, and to share them with your friends and on wedding forums and stuff.

Thanks to Farrell & Chase for their blog post where I found Pinterest.

Sharing wedding planning images

Once again, the beauty of being a wedding blogger and running my own wedding business makes me think a bit harder about this. I’m aware of design copyright issues with images of things like wedding stationery and jewellery. I’ve seen the bunfights on forums many times!

I ask permission before I publish any photographer’s images on my blog. But if I’m browsing the web for images say for a personal art project I won’t be sharing online – I right-click and borrow from anywhere, quite guilt-free. Personally as a calligrapher I’m happy for anyone (legit) to grab an image from my site so long as they credit and link to me.

I’d like to throw this question out to all wedding photographers, wedding designers of any kind, website owners and brides too: can a site like Pinterest become a great resource for brides, grooms and bloggers – without upsetting anyone?

I hope it can…

Pintrest looks great. Evernote is similar, you can clip bits of articles and images, also works on a Smartphone which is ideal for brides and grooms if they see something they like when they are out and about- I use it a lot for work.

Thank you for the comment, K (love the mystery of the single initial! haha) I will have a play with evernote on my phone, sounds good. x

It’s a great resource site and likely to prove very popular …. but it needs to tread very carefully as it doesn’t just save a thumbnail but a hi-res image too. It also know this because it puts the onus on you, the user, to make sure that you have cleared the usage in case it gets it’s backside bitten:

“…By transmitting content to our server you guarantee us that you have the right to make this content available for use. At the same time you grant us a right of use in such content….”

I don’t mind people sharing my content, but that’s because everything of mine on the website, blog, flickr and facebook is watermarked … and until you have had your entire website stolen and passed off as someone else’s work, as I did three years ago, you will never know how sick to your stomach you will feel.

Happy to share, not happy to give away!

Dirk thank you – that’s really interesting. I’ve heard similar stories but nothing quite so bad, and especially for a photographer where those images are your product itself (if that makes sense… my photos on my work website are representations of my product but not the product itself). Wow.

To come from that experience with a ‘happy to share’ perspective is great.

I read the t&cs on Pinterest too – as a blogger I know to be very careful with any images I use! I wonder if brides and grooms would necessarily read the full terms and conditions. Would be interesting to find out.

Thanks for the comment anyway 🙂
