Hiring your wedding venue is a huge decision, worth a big chunk of your budget. So it’s important to make the right choice!
Start with your wedding budget, and stick to it. Don’t be swayed by a pretty ballroom or landscaped gardens if you really can’t afford an expensive wedding venue.
Average UK wedding venue prices
Wedding venue hire accounts for around 8% of the average UK wedding budget. So for an overall budget of £20,000 you might expect to pay £1,600 for the hire of your venue.
As well as the venue hire price, your venue will quote you a price per head for catering: food and drink for each of your guests.
They may also have a list of recommended suppliers. I’d advise caution here: as a supplier myself I’ve been asked to pay up to £300 to appear on a local venue’s recommended supplier list — when they hadn’t met me or seen my work in person. So ask how they choose their recommended suppliers!
Save money on your wedding venue
You can save on your wedding venue by booking your wedding out of season (from October to April) or on a weekday if available. Saturday weddings in August will cost more — they’re more in demand and tend to book up early.
