There are a few things to consider when choosing the right location for your wedding, and different locations to discuss before you book your wedding venue.
Wedding venue near your parents’ house
If you have moved away from the family home, it can still be a wonderful place to go back to for your wedding. Our childhood haunts can hold very fond memories.
If your parents are hosting the wedding they’ll probably be delighted you’re coming back home to get married. It’s easier for them to be involved, and all those regular visits back home while you plan and meet with local suppliers will be great news for your mum and dad.
Wedding venue near your partner’s parents’ house
For the same reasons your partner might want to get married near his or her family home. This does make particular sense if your partner has a lot of friends or family in the area, and perhaps yours are more spread out.
The only thing to watch is that whoever is hosting the wedding can still be as involved as they’d like to be.
Wedding venue near where you grew up
Even if your parents aren’t in the same place, there’s such a romanticism to getting married near where you grew up. It’s bound to be a place full of memories you’ll share with your family and close friends — and how wonderful to be able to share things with your husband– or wife-to-be.
We’ve all play-acted a wedding as kids, and twenty or so years on, it’s still natural to imagine your wedding at the same church / stately home you dreamed of flouncing up the aisle at when you were seven. So why not live the dream?
Wedding venue central to guests
On a more practical note, consider where all your guests are coming from. If you live in London but most of your wedding guests are from Yorkshire and Scotland, and if the venue isn’t the most important thing to you, then consider finding a wedding location that’s more convenient for your guests.
Planning your wedding will be fun as you can visit your guests and spend time at their houses while you meet with suppliers and make your wedding plans.
Dream wedding venue anywhere
If none of the above are a major concern, then the world is your oyster. Start browsing the web and find the grandest / funkiest / most unusual wedding venue you can, regardless of location.
