Can a bride wear a watch?

Print Friendly

Tick-Tock, the watch is going to chime…

Will you be wearing a watch on your wedding day? It was something that struck me as odd when I realised how many brides don’t and yet would be in a total flap without one any other day of the week.

The idea isn’t that you’d need to check the time but that it acts as another wedding accessory. And isn’t the idea of counting down the minutes until you walk down the aisle/your first dance/the wedding night quite cute?

The trend for charm bracelet watches is apparent when shopping for a watch with everyone from Accessorize to Burberry creating charming time pieces. Wearing a charm braclet watch on your wedding day acts as two accessories in one and takes away the – mistaken — concept of wearing a chunky watch.

A personal tip would be to check Miss Selfridge if you’re after a lower priced item. They have some gorgeous dress watches featuring pearls, charms and an extra sprinkle of prettiness!

I’ve made a moodboard which shows the wide range out there and check out the tips and ideas below for finding the perfect watch for your wedding day.

pretty watch inspirationSomething old:

Why not seek out a vintage watch from an antique store and allow it to act as your something old? Many watches can easily be fixed for a couple of pounds if the battery has stopped or the cogs are no longer turning. Look for untarnished styles in silver for a real antique feel.

Something new:

I love the idea of the bride getting a gift on her wedding day. Whether it’s your mother, your bridesmaids or your darling groom, the idea of a watch to celebrate the time of your life is a brilliant gift. They don’t have to be pricy either; High Street stores such as River Island, New Look and George at Asda have a gorgeous selection. And for designer watches, try H.Samuel.

Something borrowed:

Be it from your mother, grandmother or great-grandmother, borrowing a piece of jewellery adds a real heritage feel to any wedding. Perhaps a family member had a watch you always admired or there’s an old one lying in a jewellery box somewhere? Ask around your nearest and dearest and you’re bound to find a beautiful time piece for you to wear on your big day.

Something blue:

Match your watch face to your colour scheme for a brilliant way of tying everything together that little bit more. Gucci do the most gorgeous pink and pearl watch faces but if you can’t splash out, why not change the strap? Replace the strap of a broken or old watch with some coloured ribbon, lace or silk for a DIY job that looks a million dollars.
