No. 13: Finishing Touches and Coming Up!
Days to go: 39
It’s getting close! And I’m still bored of waiting!
Last night Richard and I got down to some serious business with sorting out some of the finishing touches for the wedding day.
There he is!
I knew there was a reason why I always keep boxes that I get things delivered in. A decent sized All Saints box was given the vintage music treatment and is now our wedding card box for the day!
We’ve almost finished the table plan — I just need to find some dark red ribbon to stick around the edges to really make it look special.
Wednesday Writes — it’s paperytastic!
Part two of the new weekly* feature every Wednesday on the English Wedding Blog: Wednesday Writes.
This week on Wednesday Writes:
- The anatomy of a wedding invitation. This is fab, from A Lucky Orchid Wedding. Your invitation — it has the invitation in, but what other bits can you include?
- Gorgeous embossed Elegant Jolie Letterpress invites from Bella Figura : these are fabulous:
Cute illustrations on vintage style Save The Dates from Craft-Lovely- 15 years together: a lovely calligraphy commission and some insights on being married — I love this from A Place for Lettering
Wednesday writes… weekly wedding paper treats
There are lots of words that start with W. It took a while to come up with the right name for this weekly feature — but I think Wednesday Writes covers it nicely.
Wednesday Writes on English Wedding
Every Wednesday I will be indulging my love of papery things and sharing my favourite new invitations, paper accessories, calligraphy and more with you. I know I’m not the only one here with a passion for paper and letters — so I hope you enjoy Wednesday Writes from today.
So to kick off…
Hello new feature: the Monday Makerie! (wedding diy)
Happy Monday everyone! Hopefully you’ve got a little spring sunshine where you are, but if not perhaps I can add a little cheer to your day. It’s time for something a little new and different (for me!), and in tune with what the focus of the English Wedding blog, this is all about creativity and gorgeous weddings.
Introducing the Monday Makerie on English Wedding
The Monday Makerie is all about making things. It’s for brides and grooms who want to have fun and perhaps save a little money too — but it’s more about fun than finances. The Monday Makerie is a new weekly feature on wedding crafts and ideas, where I’ll show you my favourite things from around the web each week — all to inspire your wedding diy projects.
Homemade Invitations and RSVPs
I wanted to personally hand-make as many details as possible for the wedding, I’ve always been quite crafty and enjoy anything hands-on, and what better way to make your wedding day as personal as possible?
The first thing to create was obviously the invitations and RSVP cards; I looked at a lot of professionals’ work, craft websites, how-to’s and DIY ideas for inspiration (the Martha Stewart Weddings website is amazing and provides free print-outs for tonnes of designs), but wanted to keep it quite simple… and also would have up to 100 of some pieces to make!
No. 4: Table Plan Board Stage 1
Days to go: 70
A quickie today (as I’m still feeling pretty dire and can’t see properly out of my left eye!) — yesterday Richard and I busied ourselves with the first stage of building our table plan board!
A while ago I found some real vintage music on eBay — on the theme of love! — for around £2 per song, which we cut up and glued to an A1 mount board (found in Ryman stationers for £7.99).
Et voila!

No. 3: The Theme-ish and My Messed Up Face
Days to go: 73
I was planning on raving how excited I am about my engagement shoot this Friday — but I’ve had to cancel it, as last week I came down with shingles (completely random and meant for people over 60) and my whole face is a complete mess. I have a swollen eye, swollen left side of my face, boils, sores, a constant splitting headache — and every time I stand up I almost fall over.
This is not good. And there are like, two months to go.

The Wedding Show stars: Inspired by Lisa
Wedding stationery for springtime — these designs are fun and colourful, bright and happy, from Inspired by Lisa.
Lisa’s stand was a busy one at The Wedding Show on Saturday, and we barely had time to say hello and admire one of her beautiful table plans. What did strike me immediately was the quality of her wedding stationery. Invitations were beautifully made, table plans flawless, and there was an air of elegance and sophistication about the exhibition stand.
The Wedding Show stars: Kate Lewis
Cute, quirky, pretty, individual… any of these on your wedding stationery wish list?
If they are, then you should consider Kate Lewis Design for your wedding invitations and stationery. I met Kate at The Wedding Show last weekend and she was every bit as lovely as her wedding invitation designs imply!
Kate Lewis’s background is in fashion design. She told me she’s always surprised — and pleased — when brides fall in love with her sketched wedding invitation designs. I loved the fairy sketches and the bride and groom invitations on Kate’s stand, but there was so much more to see as well — if you’re looking for pretty wedding invitations it’s definitely worth looking at Kate Lewis Design online.
Vintage Wedding Treats
My plan today was to write a little post about wedding accessories from Vintage Twee. Owned by the loveliest lady in all of weddingland, as inspiring and gorgeous as it gets, I was excited to hear last week about some new wedding favours and accessories Joanne had just designed.
That was the plan.
Quality handcrafted vintage wedding decorations
Joanne had also mentioned a new website for Vintage Twee was on the way. Lovely, I thought. And as I sat down to write — I’ll just have a quick look, open up the website and have all the details to hand of these new rose confetti cones and vintage music sheet cones.
