Wedding blogger photoshoot: mystery locations, fire, magic and crash helmets
In the interest of maintaining a pretty distinct niche for English Wedding, my latest photoshoot was all about creativity: having a blast and enjoying the experience. And please do forgive me for a self indulgent blog post today!
While the other UK wedding bloggers look amazing in their vintage wedding dresses and accessories, as a calligrapher and artist I like to be a little different. (Just as the weddings I love most of all have something a little unique about them.)
Would you move your wedding for royalty?
Imagine the scenario: you’ve booked your wedding date, chatted to the vicar and are looking forward to getting married in a picturesque little church that probably means a lot to you… would you move over if another couple wanted it more?
Or, would you move over if another couple just wanted it, and were more famous? Or if they had more money?
The road to Scotland’s first royal wedding in 20 years
The story that Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall are getting married this summer in a church that was already booked by another couple is really making me think this morning. Read the full story on the BBC website.

Plan your own wedding like a professional — with a genie for the weekend!
When I chat to brides as part of my day job or for all those of you who send me lovely emails about your weddings I’m always impressed and often amazed. Why? Because so many of you are planning your gorgeous wedding receptions with a hundred or so guests… it can be a military operation and it’s almost always a once in a lifetime experience for you — so hats off to you, ladies and gents, for planning your weddings. I don’t think I could do it!
Fairy Liquid honours the royal wedding in soapy style
This post is for you, dear readers. Because I’m a little at a loss for words: inwardly chuckling, and yet slightly alarmed that I find this funny: “Procter & Gamble is developing a special-edition plastic bottle of Fairy Liquid to commemorate the royal wedding in April”.
Emma Hall, London editor of US magazine Advertising Age, contacted me to ask for a quote and — trying not to be insulting but failing, I think — I obliged and have been quoted in her article here:
The Great British love poem: Trust, Tea and Two TVs
You might remember back in November on the English Wedding blog we revealed the secret of everlasting love — well, kinda: Alanna and Mike had travelled across the Americas interviewing couples in love and compiled a heartwarming film about the reasons relationships last.
They then set out across the UK to extend their quest and find the answer to the secret of a lasting relationship. Somehow they’ve ended up with a poem… a quirky and lighthearted reading which I wanted to share with you.
Can Google predict your wedding date?
Weirdly enough, it would seem Google knows a LOT about your wedding. Last-minute wedding shopper? Aha.… Google can see you! And it knows what your guests are up to!
As I know a lot of you reading are very web-savvy I thought this article might be an interesting read. Can Google predict your wedding date? Over to guest blogger Mike Doyle to reveal all…
The Wedding Show Stars: Mossy
Walking around The Wedding Show about this time last week I was delighted to spot Mossy in the corner in his famous — yes, famous! — stripey jacket.
If you don’t know who Mossy is, you should! Luckily enough, in just a second or two, you will! I first saw Mossy’s work years ago when I began my calligraphy business. Mossy is a wedding caricaturist with tons of personality, instantly recognisable across a crowded marquee (be it at your wedding day or at a show like Tatton) and someone I’ve admired from afar for years. It was a pleasure to have a quick chat to Mossy last weekend — I hope I managed to convince him that he IS famous!
Wedding Awards and Creativity
Reaction to the Wedding Ideas Magazine Awards last week was mixed, and really got me thinking. While I don’t want to criticise the organisers and I accept the results reflected popular opinion, I felt more than a little deflated after seeing the winners’ list on Friday evening. Why? It took me a few days to think about that one.
I’m a creative type. I wear rose-tinted specs. They go with my image.

Valentine’s Day charity scrolls
Evening everyone
I have a quick post to write this evening, and if anyone can help I will be really grateful. My fellow wedding stationer and good friend Julie from Carol Miller Designs has designed Valentine’s Day scroll gifts in aid of charity and is looking for loved-up folks to sell them to!
Julie spotted that PC David Rathband is running the London Marathon to raise money for his charity The Blue Lamp Foundation. Having a heart of gold, Julie came up with these Valentine’s Day scrolls, with every single penny of her profit going to the charity.

BBC3 Pilot Looking for Engaged Couples to Test Drive Their Marriage
I’ve just received this press release from BBC3 — and unlike some other wedding programmes I’ve seen, this sounds like a really inspiring programme to watch and be involved in. So — hot off the press:
Have you ever wondered how people view you as a couple? Would you like the chance to delve into somebody else’s engagement and see what they’re planning for their big day, and their future lives together?
