A wedding in two halves

bride with red bouquet

Annie is today’s beautiful bride, in a sleek white wedding gown with her lovely red gerbera bouquet

Annie and Matt’s wedding has everything: the beautiful bride, super cool groom, elegance, sophistication, smiles and laughter. I fell in love with the photos of this wedding day on photographer Joseph Yarrow’s blog, and especially with how the day flows from exquisite black and white photos to a riot of fabulous colour. Hence my title, “a wedding of two halves”.

Annie’s dress is sleek and simple, flattering her slender figure. The sweetheart neckline is emphasised with almost grecian straps, and the folds of the fabric from Annie’s waist through the bodice and skirt of the dress are elegant and accentuate her curves. The train of the dress is a lovely length and Annie shows it off beautifully.

bridal preparations

Annie and her bridesmaids finish getting ready. A lovely, natural wedding picture in black and white.

Annie and her bridesmaids get ready for the big day. Annie’s hair is tied back with lovely flower clips. This picture is typical of Joseph Yarrow’s relaxed wedding photography style, with bridesmaids helping out with those essential final touches.

bridesmaids

Annie and her bridesmaids make their way to the wedding in Manchester town centre.

Annie and her bridesmaids make their way through Manchester town centre for the wedding. The bridesmaids wear lovely white skirts, and black strapless tops with waist sashes. There’s something really special about an English city wedding.

Father of the bride

The wedding was in Manchester Town Hall, and the entrance is through these dramatic tunnels — wow!

This  photo is gorgeous, really atmospheric with the dramatic tunnels leading underground to Manchester Town Hall. I love the lanterns lighting the high gothic archways, and the expression on Annie’s face, and on her dad’s.

back of the wedding dress

As Annie and her dad get ready to enter the town hall, photographer Joseph Yarrow takes this beautiful picture of Annie in her dress. The shape is beautiful, the buttons exquisite.

The 21 tiny buttons on the back of Annie’s dress are so beautiful. It’s a classic style (my mum’s wedding dress had these little buttons!) and with Annie’s wonderful figure makes a striking wedding photograph.

wedding ceremony

The wedding ceremony complete, the delighted bride and groom turn to share their happiness with wedding guests.

Within the grandeur of Manchester Town Hall, a very formal English wedding venue, the happy smiles of the bride and groom are fantastic. It feels as though this wedding photo mixes the formality of marriage with the fun and enjoyment of contemporary English weddings. A lovely image!

church wedding

Annie and Matt are a great couple, full of fun and style — love those smiles!

Leading the way out of the town hall, Annie and Matt look amazing. These two never stop smiling! And the guests in the background look pleased as punch too — a perfect wedding photo. The lovely gothic windows spilling sunlight in the background just complete the picture.

Married bride and groom

Combining style and drama with romance — this photo of the bride and groom in the tunnels under Manchester Town Hall is so romantic.

This is lovely — a romantic photo of the bride and groom together in those fabulous tunnels under the Town Hall.

Bride after wedding

Leaving the Town Hall with her husband and dad, Annie looks like a star in that gorgeous wedding gown

Another wedding picture with everything: the dark black shadows to the left creating drama, the lighting, gothic windows and lovely mosaic floor, the bride our centre of attention — that dress was made for Annie! The last of our black and white photos is a stunner by Joseph Yarrow, as they all are! But now…

wedding confetti

Wedding guests shower the bride and groom with confetti — the bridal bouquet offers little protection!

For me this photograph is setting the scene for the exciting colour pictures to come. The confetti, the lightness and pastel colours of the guests’ outfits, and the determined lady on the right in the lovely summer dress… all point to a fun, exciting afternoon following the wedding.

cool english groom

Super cool bridegroom Matt could only be from Manchester! I love his look, and his smile!

And before the riot of colour begins, a lovely photograph of the bridegroom, in subtle tones, means the focus is all on that smile. Matt looks really happy, this is a lovely photograph and well worth a mention. Plus — how cool are we Brits?! The hair, sunglasses, stubble… rocking that wedding look!

back of a london bus

Woah! A big, bright, red double decker bus. Getting married? Hire it — number’s on the back ;-)

The bus brings along a rainbow of colour to the wedding. The blue sky, blue reflecting windows and resulting pinkness of the bus are a great combination, and I love the angle of the image. And what a cool idea to hire a double decker for your wedding guests! (It’s also probably the only clean bus in the UK. Look at that shine!)

bridesmaids reflecting in bus

Another amazing, creative wedding photograph: the reflection in the bus looks great!

I fell in love with this wedding photo as soon as I saw it. The bridesmaids walk alongside the double decker bus, and the bright red paintwork catches their reflections so clearly! Again the angle of the picture is perfect, the bridesmaids’ dresses are gorgeous and the pale pink roses to the right of the picture are just an extra dash of prettiness — beautiful.

wedding tables

Annie and Matt’s wedding reception was bright, summery and fun — and full of lovely colour!

The wedding reception was held in a friend’s garden, and they’d really pulled out all the stops to make everything look wonderful. The bright colours are everywhere from the centrepieces to the plates and even the pretty shrubs between the tables!

bride at wedding reception

Annie’s expression is captured forever in this beautiful wedding photo

As Annie sees how her friends have made such a beautiful display of the wedding tables in their garden, her delight is written all over her face. This is such a perfect wedding photograph, spontaneous and natural, capturing a very special moment of the day.

wedding guests

The wedding guests have a wonderful time — and the picture is awash with summery colours

Annie and Matt’s wedding guests relax at the reception while Joseph Yarrow snaps away and catches them off guard enjoying a chat. The picture is gorgeous for the lovely colours, from the lovely turquoise blue jacket to the sunflowers in the background, the lime green foliage and reds, pinks and purples of the table decorations. It all comes together beautifully.

apple tree

Setting the scene… the apples are ripe in the tree, and this picture is a lovely lifestyle type addition to the wedding album

Sometimes it’s not about the bride and groom, but about the day, the summery feeling of the reception, the little details you missed, the colours and quiet little moments your photographer will pick up on. Here, a cobweb sparkles softly in the apple tree, with the wedding reception — shown in hot pink! — carrying on in the background.

garden party

A photograph taken from the back of the wedding reception, full of late summer colour

A great wedding photographer will be around, taking fantastic photos while you aren’t even aware he’s there. Here we see the wedding reception from outside, with Annie and Matt the focus of the picture, and the lush foliage, ivy and Japanese anemones against the brick wall capturing the homely setting and summery feel of the wedding day.

wedding dance

A riot of colour sparks a mini riot… well not really. But the wedding guests are having a blast!

The photos of the evening celebrations don’t get any quieter, and every guest’s face shows they’re having a fantastic time. The marquee inside is decorated with swags in hot pinks, cornflower and violet blues, with a dash of white — making for great shots of the dancing.

wedding reception in colour

This is the one!

From reading photographer Joseph Yarrow’s own blog feature on this wedding, I know the first dance song was the Stone Roses’ This is the One — and what a wedding song to remember. I love this wedding photo for the enjoyment it shows — I wish I’d been there!

Thanks to Bristol based / UK wide wedding photographer Joseph Yarrow for submitting this wedding. I hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as I have — please do comment below, we love reading your comments!

What a fab wedding! Thanks for posting it. Really makes us feel as though summer is here, and the couple look so happy. The big shiny red bus is great. As a wedding florist and garden designer I think this is the perfect wedding, the bright colours of the garden and table decorations really bring the party to life.
