Nick and Clair were married in Kent in the summer of 2009

This English summer wedding stands out for me like a little diamond. It’s simple and sweet — the details make it, as do the smiles! Nick and Clair were married in Kent this summer, and they make a great looking couple. It’s a great wedding to share with you — I hope you like it! The photographer was Eliza Claire who is based in Kent (hence the “Garden of England” title for this feature!) — her approach to weddings is individual and you’ll love her for it! Read on…

Lacing up the back of the wedding dress

Clair’s dress was beautiful soft white, with ruched silk fabric and criss cross detailing on the bodice. The line of the dress fitted her beautifully, she has such a lovely figure and this strapless style suited her down to the ground — literally! Clair wore a mid-length veil and pretty crystal tiara to complete her bridal look.

The final preparations: Clair’s dad prepares to walk her down the aisle

Clair’s dad wore these cute Father of the Bride cufflinks. Eliza Claire captures all the little details so well — this is a fantastic photo, and a great memory of the day.

I don’t think these Converse belonged to the bride…

Wedding shoes — but perhaps not for our gorgeous bride! I’ve had a good look at all the pictures and I’m fairly sure she’s not wearing these… however there are some pretty cool kids at this wedding who’d love them!

Clair’s dad fastens her necklace in the final wedding preparations

Clair’s bridal jewellery is very simple and sophisticated. She wears diamond stud earrings, with a matching necklace and that lovely crystal tiara. She really is beautiful — and her dad looks so proud.

Children can make a wedding — and these two are so handsome in their suits!

A wedding can be a massive event for kids: these two take it in their strides, looking cool and collected in their formal wear. Eliza Claire is good with children — check out her wedding photography website for more great pictures of kids at weddings and for her family portraiture too.

Clair’s dad walks her down the aisle as Nick turns to see his beautiful bride

This bright, happy photo of Clair entering the wedding ceremony room is fantastic. It’s quite rare to see the very moment the bride enters the room, and I love how Clair’s looking directly at Nick — as though he’s the only one in the room. Clair’s dad looks so proud and happy too, it’s a great photograph.

Nick and Clair together for the first time on their wedding day

The happy couple. Clair’s eyes say it all in this picture as she looks at Nick. I love to see photographs of the actual wedding ceremony, and this is more often possible with civil weddings. Photographer Eliza Claire is right there to capture all the best moments and she does it perfectly. It’s the smiles, the private looks between bride and groom, that make a great wedding photographer stand out.

Bride Clair wipes away a tear during the wedding ceremony

Clair wipes away a tear during an emotional part of the wedding service. This makes a beautiful picture: remembering your wedding day is all about your feelings and the words said at the ceremony, during the reception and between you and your bride or groom. This lovely natural picture is so good because it will bring back treasured memories.

The boys help out at the wedding ceremony

These two are some of my very favourite pictures. Children love to play a part in the wedding day, and the little boy is looking after dad while the page boy on the right is the ring bearer for Nick and Clair. Their feelings are written across their faces — one’s curious, the other conscientious. This will be a very special day for both to remember, that’s for sure.

Nick and Clair pose for formal wedding photos outside the venue

I love these two pictures. The archways make a great background for the wedding photography outside the venue and the bride and groom are lit up at the centre of the first picture with soft sunlight. The second image is one I adore for its composition. Clair is gorgeous, the wedding dress settled around her on the venue steps, her veil drawing attention to the centre of the picture, and her arms around Nick’s leg speaking volumes. Fantastic.

Nick and Clair cut their wedding cake: an exquisite white tiered cake

The pure white wedding cake is elegance itself. With white ribbons and real flowers, it’s just lovely: understated and photographed just right with a simple, natural background. Both of these photographs are great, focusing on the detail and capturing the essence of Nick & Clair’s wedding day.

Bride and groom Kent wedding venue

Nick and Clair take a stroll in the gardens after the wedding.

Another natural picture in the gardens — Eliza Claire snaps away as the bride and groom take a moment together. I like the movement in this picture, the bride and groom are happy and relaxed, and the picture isn’t staged. They’re framed nicely by the trees to either side of the lawn — it’s a lovely photograph and I think a really nice way to end this English wedding feature.

There’s loads more to see on Eliza Claire’s wedding photography website, which is gorgeous in itself. I love her philosophy: “I love love, I love being in love, and I love capturing love. I love being a wedding photographer because I get to hang out with people in love.”

Thanks ever so much, Eliza, for submitting this wedding to my blog. I’m still smiling :-)

Claire, reading your words (which are just perfect — you could have been there you seem to ‘get’ this wedding so well!) have made me quite emotional. I’ve had a really difficult week as my husband’s been in hospital with suspected meningitis — seeing this post yesterday made me smile so much, and reading Clair’s words have brought tears to my eyes — for me this is what the job is ALL about! Thank you so, so much for making me smile. (Oh and my husband has turned a corner today and is doing much better too — yay!)

Eliza I really hope your husband will make a swift recovery. Glad I could make you smile with the post… but I can’t take the credit for that, I’m just saying what I see and your photographs just show a happy, emotional, lovely wedding — I don’t think I stopped smiling the whole time I was typing about Nick and Clair! You caught that, and you should be so proud!
Clair — Mrs Fordyce-Gray! — thanks for posting your comment here too. It means a lot to me as well as to Eliza. And may I say you’re absolutely beautiful!
      Claire x
